I hate politics.

I believe the system is corrupt and full of self serving SOB's that have lost sight of what America truly wants. So, I avoid political discussions. I'd rather remain ignorant at times. This is one of those times I can't.

Senate OKs expansion of stem cell research
Vote, 63-37, not enough to override promised presidential veto

Tuesday, July 18, 2006; Posted: 8:39 p.m. EDT (00:39 GMT)

WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Senate voted Tuesday after two days of emotional debate to expand federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, sending the measure to President Bush for a promised veto, the first of his presidency.

Bush is a dumb shit. I didn't vote for him. Anyone that did is realizing what an asshat he really is. 70% of Americans (3 out of 4!) are for this research. Bush is going to veto this bill to please his right wing asshat buddies in Texas.

Odds are very good that Bush will lose someone close to him to a disease that Stem Cell Research could help irradicate.

This falls under the third basic law of human stupidity:
A stupid person is a person who causes losses to another person or to a group of persons while himself deriving no gain and even possibly incurring losses.

Dipshit.

Double Dipshit.

I am in the most possibly complete agreement with you. As someone with a degree in molecular biology who understands perfectly well the tremendous potential behind stem cell-based research and treatments I can't fathom the stupidty of Bush's insistence on vetoing the bill.

He called it a matter of principle but what principle has to do with the representative of the country -- the supposed voice of the people -- going against something that the vast majority of citizens want is absolutely beyond me.

Maybe he needs to go on a hunting trip with Cheney...

LoL, I'll second the hunting trip.

Working at MIT - I see the importance of this research every day. He's making an uneducated choice because his religous right wing cronies told him too. I get physically ill every time I see the man open his mouth on TV.

Research is key to everything- Where would we be today without it? Banging our clothes on a rock and fighting illness with beetle dung... damn Bush.

Ugh. I just caught this on the newswire. I'm in agreement with you, James, and Kfarmer.

Research like this could also help people like my mom who suffers from Diabetes. (Which has gotten worse despite the fact she is now doing the doctor's strict orders and a new fangled protein/insulin shit she has to inject twice a day. But I digress.) There is a wealth of knowledge that can be gleaned from that kind of research. How selfish and ignorant of the President.

But I'm not surprised in the slightest by his veto.

they only need four more votes for an override find out how your congressman/woman voted, and let them know how you feel about it. be polite but direct sound intellegent. now is the time to act let them know it! i understand your frustrations, and wanting to give up, but if writing a few letters can help save millions of lives what do you have to lose. also remeber that this is still an election year and while the president isn't up, there are hundreds of seats up all over the country. apathy will not improve this country, and while it isn't perfect the system is the only means of change we have.

You're 100% right anonymous. I have no right to bitch, if I am not willing to put in some effort to make a change.
